London Marathon

For months and months you worked so hard
Each day you had to train
No matter what the weather did
In sunshine and in rain

And then the date in autumn comes
It’s time to do your stuff
And hope the work that you put in
Will make it not too tough

A cool wind blows across Blackheath
The sight of all those shoes
The time has come, the klaxon sounds
Desires they must now ooze

The aches, the pains, the evil wall
That voice which screams to stop
It matters not how you got there
If ran, or walked or hopped

The streets are lined, in thousands came
They don’t know who you are
But cheered you on, of you they’re proud
Today you’re all our star

2020, acrostically

2020, Acrostically

Vaccines are a miracle and scientists are fab,

And I’m so grateful they exist,

Create things in the lab,

Care for them we all should do and give them what they need,

I for one shall sing their praise,

No doubt that they should lead,

Experiments just need time to work and data must be checked,

So when they tell you something’s good,

We must trust, not suspect,

Oh also while I have you here, I have one thing to ask,

Read please each line’s first letter, and,

Keep calm, and wear your mask.

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

There’s lots of stuff goin’ on up there,
We need to treat it well,
Our minds the soul of who we are,
My plan for this, I’ll spell,

See life is tough, we all have doubts,
And questions ‘bout our worth,
We wonder if we’re good enough,
And what’s our place on Earth,

To me, our role is to spread light,
And help each other out,
Especially when they’re feeling low,
And need some help to shout,

You are enough just as you are,
But if you’re feeling low,
Let’s talk some more, I’d like to help,
And help your sweet smile grow,

Be kind to all that you should meet,
And be their beam of light,
Today you might be all they need
To help them see their might.

Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV

Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV

It’s so great to be a person,
We can bring so much joy,
To do good things here in this world,
If you’re a girl or boy,

And let’s say you’re a woman,
The trials that you go through,
To fight against those evil views,
Which fail to value you,

I write this as a modern man,
‘Least this I try to be,
To speak against misogyny,
Wherever it I see,

When it looks to the camera,
To speak its evil hate,
We must all do one more good deed,
As these carry more weight,

For now it’s there on the TV,
His smirking, harmful face,
So make sure when November comes,
It did not win the race.

Wind

Wind

We’re sculpted by her forces,
Her brushes paint with time,
She blows against the rocks so hard,
But makes a scene sublime,

And other times she’s gentle,
Her swaying in the trees,
To listen to her symphony,
Her notes speak through the breeze,

This scene is set before her,
A field of crops and grains,
She blows away the big dark clouds,
And clears away the rains,

And when down by the ocean,
She makes our senses flow,
That unique smell of salted air,
We smile as our cheeks glow,

She also has a cheeky side,
To lift a summer dress,
Oh wind, you’re mother nature’s voice,
I love you more, not less.

Aurora

Aurora

She dances ‘cross the midnight sky
A joy for all to see
She’s high up in the latitudes
Her solar winds run free

Her technicolour rainbow dream
She makes the night sky bright
Reminds us that when things feel dark
There’s always chance for light

Though science has laid her secrets bare
This awe-inspiring art
Her light goes deep inside our souls
And speaks right to our heart

When things feel bleak and monsters talk
This angel pops her mouth
To show us what true beauty means
From north down to the south

So when you need to feel a boost
Of hopes and dreams and love
Just think of the auroras there
A hug sent from above

Fate

Fate

Some 14 billion years ago
Or somewhere thereabouts
A huge big bang did start our fate
From this we all did spout

The stars aligned to set things up
The water flowed on down
But just the hint of life begun
That led to make this town

The chances that you came to be
Are trillions to one
So make sure that your time on earth
Is left with good things done

There’s so much on this rock of ours
From hills to trees to you
This world that we call planet earth
The best thing nature drew

So when you sit there late at night
And wonder if you’re great
Of course you are, a miracle
You’re here, that must be fate.

Cats and Books

Cats and Books

Imagine though if cats read books
I wonder what they’d be
A book shop that was just for cats
How cute that would be, squee!

So let’s review some books they’d read
Or what we think they’d like
I bet there’d be one all ‘bout fish
Like tuna or a pike

They’d likely not read books on dogs
Unless those books did tell
A story all about the tips
To make dogs go through hell

There would be one for humans too
To teach us how to stroke
No not right there, but just ‘bout there
To get it right’s no joke!

I’m liking this, if cats could read
To them the books we’d flog
And maybe we’ll collaborate
And write a cat book blog

Campervan Adventures

Campervan Adventures

Herbie was a beetle
A friendly, warm love bug
You sat inside his cosy seats
And felt so calm and snug

VW do make campers too
To see the world afar
There’s room to sit and make some tea
A place to hang your bra

My favourite thing with camper vans
To drive to see the sea
And wait ‘til darkness lands ashore
Look up high, feel free

Our world is big yet somehow small
Just one small dot in space
So pack your bags, load up the van
And take things at your pace

I dream one day to buy a van
Before I’m old and grey
High ISO, wide aperture
I'll shoot the milky way

Way up high in the cotton wool sky

Way up high in the cotton wool sky

Above the streets and fields and homes
Where tiny dots are cars
A blueness drifts for miles and miles
Except at night, there’s stars

There’s lots of people high up there
In awe what sits below
To see our land from high above
To view this greatest show

The engines purr, distinctive pings
The seatbelt sign is off
The cabin crew bring food and drink
Enjoy but do not scoff

A view beneath which fills your eyes
Just look, admire this scene
From mountains high to oceans blue
It’s nature’s TV screen

The rivers bend, the landscape shifts
This show from way up high
From far up here, above the clouds
This cotton wool blue sky
