"Hello"

"Hello"

I came and saw you sitting there
While thousands did walk past
I knew at once when I saw you
I’ve found my one at last

Was it your eyes or your sweet smile
That made me sigh out loud?
I’d like the chance if you’d let me
To show you why I’m wowed

For me it’s hard to say “Hello”
I’m sure my face is red
I hope one day you’ll hold my hand
On newly paths we’ll tread

I realised that my choice was right
When you joined in with me
To point out why that thing is daft
Our mouths light up with glee

I’m so glad that I listened to
My heart which did convince
To take a chance and just say “hi”
Now proud to be your prince

Wedding Day

Wedding day

The doors burst wide open
The notes start to play
As Wagner’s great chorus
Starts this special day

A floating white angel
Glides right down the aisle
The moment I see you
Just can’t help but smile

This day we’ve been waiting
To say out our vows
As we share with close ones
Commit to mop brows

Inscribed on the gold rings
Nunc scio quid sit amor
I’ve now said that I do
It’s you I adore

As we turn and face south
And walk hand in hand
With you I can be sure that
Our lives will be grand

Unrequited

Unrequited

That sweet rhythmic sound
As my phone it shines bright
I study each letter
The way that you write

I feel my heart sink
As deep down I just know
That you have no wish
As two we’ll shall grow

To me you’re my angel
I just wish you’d see
If we were together
You’d set my heart free

And then comes the words
That tear up my soul
“I’ve found someone else”
One gaping great hole

I need to accept this
This life that I crave
But OK it could be
If I can be brave

Charlie Hebdo

Charlie Hebdo

They went to work with pens in hand
And set about their love
A moment then it changed it all
Shots rained down from above

The ink from them it left their veins
And drew a work of hate
The date the seventh, the month the first
We shan’t forget that date

On that sad day were forced to pay
The right to have free speech
But we rose up and said “Mais non!”
A lesson to you we’ll teach

The deaths of these and others too
On three bad days in France
Have only made us stronger now
And made us know our stance

This right we have to speak our minds
Speak up and feel free
Is greater than your wish to hurt
Because Je Suis Charlie

My last one

My last one

There’s been a lot of times before
Where it’s been tough for us
I’ve wondered if it’s really been
All worth that stress and fuss

And then I sit and gaze at you
And realise ‘course it is
Cause you’re the only one I know
Who makes my brain go “whiz!”

We have this special bond do we
That makes us a great team
So much of my time spent with you
Leaves smiles that do just beam

If I was asked to outline
All of this that we have got
I think the words in the next bit
Shall summarise the plot

This deep-filled love I have for you
I know that it will grow so
Cos you my dear I hope you know
You are worth my last rolo.

London

London

The smell of primrose in my nose,
I glance upon this scene,
The cranes and domes they fill my sight,
This city full of green,

The blue bridge in the middle shows,
The twinkly lights rotate,
As bearskins march right up and down,
Stand neatly at their gate,

Do we head North or is it South?,
Just wait I need to check,
But not for long, a job made swift,
It’s easy thanks to Beck,

The cricket in the evening times,
It’s sixty-eight for four,
So take a bow, it’s time to rest,
And hear the Southbank’s roar,

The bridges breath goes up and down,
The tourists shall flock in,
As glass emerges high above,
The old reflected in,

A rainbow of eleven shades,
The quickest way to see,
This awe inspiring city,
One that gives us so much glee.

Christmas 2014

Christmas 2014

The shop lights are turned off
The streets quieten down
It’s now time for Santa
To visit your town

The movies have started
There’s carols to sing
And then comes the morning
With presents to bring

The nibbles are scattered
The liquid flows too
And hopefully we’ll share
A giggle or two

A stroll in the sunshine
The crisp winter’s air
Remember to tell them
How much that you care

So Christmas is here
And I wish you good cheer
I guess we’ll all do it
The same time next year

Who are you

Who are you?

When we are old and oh so grey,
Hope you’ll look back with me,
To tell me I was a good man,
With me felt good to be,

I hope you will recount the times,
That I stood up for you,
And made you laugh during the times,
When you were feeling blue,

It is my aim before I go,
That you would say to me,
I gave you all you needed to,
Fly high and feel free,

If when we're sat all wrinkled up,
Still holding your hand tight,
You let me know your life was good,
I’ll be proud I did right,

Right now I am just thirty-two,
To me you’re still unknown,
But hope you know I’ll cherish you,
This magic that we own.

Snowkids

Snowkids

They drop into this world
Uniquely as can be
Each one a single work of art
Just look and you shall see

The joy they bring all walks of life
And lighten up the air
Some ones drop out as single ones
Or more, such as a pair

Of course they’re not for everyone
And that is OK too
Cos if you like, you can go make
A snowman that’s in lieu

So know this poem is about
How snowflakes are like kids
They’re both as grand and complex as
The ancient Pyramids.

Explanation

Someone asked me to write a poem about the similarities between snowflakes and kids. Hey I dunno, blame the internet! If you want to suggest any to me, just tweet me @philverney.

Falling

Falling

Come close to me,
And feel my heart,
You were the one,
Right from the start,

I look in deep,
Into your eyes,
When I’m with you,
So many highs,

My fingers in,
Your pretty hair,
I hope you know,
How much I care,

I’ve fallen hard,
For you that’s clear,
So proud to say,
You are my dear.
